يهدف البحث إلى التعريف بأحد الأعلام الذين لهم الريادة في تفسير ألفاظ اللغة، والبحث عبارة عن مجموعة من المرويات التي رواها العدبس، وقامت الباحثة بجمع هذه المرويات من كتب اللغة والمعاجم، وقد بلغت هذه المرويات نحو ثلاثين نقلا. وتكمن قيمة هذه المرويات في كونها نصوصًا تاريخية من عصر الفصاحة والاحتجاج اللغوي حفظها لنا العدبس ودونتها كتب اللغة، وقد نقل العلماء عنه سواء كان النقل مباشرًا بالسماع منه، أم غير مباشر. وهذا البحث يتناول أحد الأعراب الثقات، ويشير إلى أبرز العلماء الذين رووا عنه أمثال: أبي عبيد، والأزهري، والجوهري، وغيرهم مما يتضح لنا من خلال هذا البحث، ويُعَرِّف اتجاهه في التأليف المعجمي، وأهم القضايا الدلالية التي تناولها، وهذه المرويات- على قلتها - شاهدة على فصاحته وعلى معرفته بلغة العرب.
The research aims to introduce one of the notables who have pioneered the interpretation of Arabic language words. The research is a collection of narrations narrated by Al-Adbas. The researcher collected these narrations from language books and dictionaries, and these narrations amounted to thirty- narrations. The value of these narrations lies in the fact that they are historical texts from the era of eloquence and linguistic distinction, preserved for us by Al-Adbas and recorded in language books. Scholars have quoted from him, whether the transmission was direct by hearing from him or indirectly. This research deals with one of the trustworthy Bedouins and identifies the most prominent narrators about him, such as Abu Ubaid, Al-Azhari, Al-Jawhari, and others, which will become clear during this research. It defines his direction in lexical composition and the most important semantic issues that he dealt with. These narrations - although they are few - bear witness to his eloquence and his knowledge of the Arabic language
