Abstract

This study investigates selected Prophetic traditions in Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī that emphasize peaceful coexistence as a core ethical principle in Islam. Rooted in the Qurʾānic affirmation of human diversity—“Had your Lord willed, He could have made all people one community. But they will not cease to differ...” [Hūd: 118–119]—the research explores how the Prophet Muḥammad promoted a vision of social harmony that transcends religious, ethnic, and tribal differences.
The study aims to highlight the role of the Prophetic tradition in fostering shared human values and cultivating an inclusive ethic of coexistence, both among Muslims and between Muslims and the People of the Book. Drawing on a selection of relevant ḥadīths, the research offers a detailed semantic analysis, with particular attention to phonological, morphological, and syntactic features.
Adopting a descriptive and analytical methodology, the study also incorporates insights from psycholinguistics and pragmatics to uncover the expressive and rhetorical dimensions of the selected texts. This linguistic approach aims to demonstrate the eloquence and structural precision of the Prophetic discourse, while also contributing to the theoretical grounding of pragmatic and linguistic analysis within the Islamic tradition.
Among the study’s findings is a renewed appreciation for the Prophet’s attention to social ethics, particularly his concern for preserving communal cohesion and resisting divisive ideologies. The analysis reveals significant features of linguistic sophistication in the ḥadīths, underscoring their relevance for contemporary efforts to build inclusive societies.
The study recommends greater scholarly attention to traditions that promote civic consciousness and social responsibility. It also calls for a revitalized linguistic engagement with Islamic heritage—one that integrates classical scholarship with modern linguistic theory—while cautioning against the uncritical adoption of external frameworks that may undermine the integrity of Islamic thought.
